Once-in-a-lifetime ritual festival, conducted at the

Chirakkal Chamundikottam temple after nearly a century.

A testament to the rich cultural heritage of Kerala, hosting 450,000 participants

Chirakkal Perumkaliyattam

Prime Minister's Message

It is deeply heartening to learn about the ritual festival Perumkaliyattam being conducted after 45 years at the Chamundikottam temple at Chirakkal in Kannur, Kerala.
I pay my obeisances to Maa Chamundi and also pray that the festival succeeds in gaining Her grace and blessings.

The involvement of Theyyams in the festival of Perumkaliyattam is certainly a highlight. They perform a beautiful form of divine dance that is at the intersection of art and deep spirituality. I am positive that those witnessing the Theyyams would be moved by them. Further, since the festival is happening after many decades, this also gives the younger generation an opportunity to connect with this profoundly divine art form.

India is blessed with a timeless culture that has brought social consciousness and spirituality together. The conducting of festivals such as the Perumkaliyattam festival are an excellent way of bringing people of various sections of society together, furthering harmony and fraternity.
Our unparalleled cultural diversity continues to provide strength to the society and nation. The state of Kerala occupies a special place with its brilliant literature, language, music, dance, festivals, art and architecture.

During the last few years, steadfast efforts have been made to showcase India's unity in diversity, nurturing the sentiment of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.' Celebrating our culture through art and dance plays an important role in strengthening this vision.
In the Amrit Kaal of the next 25 years, our efforts are focused on building an inclusive and self-reliant India. Celebrating our heritage with pride while also building a modern nation is the path forward. The collective resolve of more than 140 crore people is our biggest strength in fulfilling this dream.

Best wishes to all the people attending the auspicious festival of Perumkaliyattam at the Chamundikottam temple. May this capture the essence and spirit of the divine occasion.
